What is the best camera for the raspberry pi for day and night use?

For the raspberry pi, I wanted to get a small camera similar to aducam low light but its suitable for both day and night time with street lights.

Night use case should be able to look as clear and bright as this example image:

Camera will not be operating when car is not in operation, camera can at various times be exposed to various different sun lights including reflections from cars during operation times.

What about this? Night Vision Camera for Raspberry Pi - IR-CUT 5MP (Version F) - The Pi Hut

It is a 5P night vision camera. The camera has an adjustable 3.6mm focal length lens and 75.7 degree viewing angle.

Hi Joe,

What an interesting deep dive I just took - g-sensitivity apparently is one of the driving factors for this.

Here is a comparison of a similar product using the same sensor:

This sensor uses the same as shown in the photos above: https://core-electronics.com.au/arducam-2mp-ultra-low-light-starvis-imx462-motorized-ir-cut-camera.html

There is some blurring, but for the price thats pretty phenominal!

Keen to see how it comes out - would love to see some of the photos/videos you take!

Hi Joe,

What is your application? Do you know what camera that was taken with?

These details will help the Core team assist

Hi mate I don’t know I don’t mind if the quality is going to be slightly worse just need something similar.

I am going to be using it for object detection.

How was this image captured? With a generic digital camera? Embedded cameras usually do not give images as clear as digital cameras.

Hey there, @Joe312384,

Without being able to test this camera at night, I really can’t give a solid idea of the performance of the IMX378.

From experiments around the office, however, I found that the IMX378 takes fairly good photos for filming in a darkened room, although there are very large halos around each source of light that obscure images on them, i.e. you would not get good pictures of say a backlit sign or a large screen, it would just be too bright. There’s also a noticeable pink tinge over the photo, which are those near IR lights. Not as bad as an IR Cut, but I found it noticeable.

Ultimately, though, there’s not going to be anyway to tell if it quite fits your needs unless you can take some photos with the camera itself.

As it would be quite a boon for community knowledge, if you do end up with the IMX378, please upload some photos of it working at night so users can get a better idea of its capabilities.

I don’t know this was from a youtube video I took a screenshot and shared it on this forum.

Hi thanks for the experiments, do you have the images or photos or something that can be shared on this forum? It sounds like the right choice based on your description.

Will do!
