Hi, using my Lulzbot mini, I was printing a fairly easy box like part in high detail, and the print was scheduled for nearly three hours. At about 85% complete, the printing simply stopped. Both the bed and the hot end remained on, and the print head was at its last printing position. I was printing from a file that was on a USB stick, not on the laptop hard drive.
I am using the latest version of Cura on my mac book pro, running the latest OS.
Cura was still up, but frozen. I was not able to disconnect from the printer, cancel the print job or anything else. In the end, I had to do a force quit to cancel Cura and turn the printer off.
I have seen others mention similar problems in other forums, but I don’t see any “simple” answers.
BTW, I spoke to the Oleph help line in the US - Not very helpful I have to say. fist response was “switch to Windows or Linux”! Not impressed with that answer. Second idea was “roll back to version 20.01 - its more stable”
I will not be back at my workshop until the weekend.
Does the Core team have any ideas? (I am considering forking out for Simplify3D)
Hey Andrew,
My first thought would be to make sure your power settings for your tethered PCs USB peripherals/HDD are not set for hibernation/sleep modes etc.
Thank you for the response. (Not sure if I answered this earlier ). I checked the lap top and there were some sleep settings set. I have now disabled same, and will try to check a long print again this weekend. I will let you know how I get on.
Not good news I am afraid. 92% of the way into a 2hr 45 min print and Cura froze again. The print stopped and I had to execute a force quite in order to restart Cura so that I could at least home the printer – very frustrating.
There is no sleep or hibernate tasks active on the lap top. In fact Cura was still up on the screen, but with the rainbow wheel spinning (Mac)
I guess I will have to see if I can dial in simplify3d unless you have some other suggestions?
It sounds like there’s one of two things happening here. It’s either an issue with the Mac Version of Cura or an issue with your STL file/G-Code file. It does sound like an issue with your version of Cura though, so I would lean toward Aleph’s suggestion of trying an earlier, more stable release of Cura (or go ahead with Simplify3D).
I’d also make sure you are running the most recent firmware version on your printer before attempting another print, just to be sure you’ve covered all your bases.
Also, out of curiosity, did the print pause at the same point on the second print?
