Mounting Kits for Picos

Hi,

As part of my Pico development fun, I would like to have the appropriate screws and risers to attach various components to the board. I bought the M2.5 mounting kit which fits the small holes on the FEETECH FS90R Micro Continuous Rotation Servos.

I would like to know the exact size for the HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Module Distance Measuring Sensor as well.

For the GlowBit 8x8 Matrix Mounting Kit it doesn’t list the size, but these seem to be the same size as the Pico itself. Do you have larger kits that fit the Pico holes?

When I use my callipers to measure the M2.5 screws, it says 2.0 on my readout, so I don’t really trust myself to just order a kit without confirming with you first what will fit.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Timothy,

The GlowBit 8x8 Matrix Mounting Kit uses M2 fasteners.

The holes in the corners of the HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Modules are tooling holes used by the machinery that assembles the modules. I’m not sure exactly what size it is, but it’s smaller than M2, so a header pin soldered into it is likely the smallest fastener you could hope to get which fits it.

Thanks Trent.

Just in case it helps anyone in the future, here is what is recommended so far:

  1. White Nylon Screw and Mounting Kit -M2 SKU: FIT0666
This size fits the GlowBit and Pico holes.

  2. White Nylon Screw and Stand-off Set – M2.5 Thread
This size fits things like the FEETECH FS90R Micro Continuous Rotation Servo and is suitable in general for the Piico Dev components.

  3. Smaller than M2 size is required for the HC-SR04P(opens in new tab) or HC-SR04+(opens in new tab) Ultrasonic Sensors. Trent has recommended header pins soldered into the tooling holes for these.

An update on this subject:
After ordering and receiving the “White Nylon Screw and Mounting Kit -M2” suggested by @Liam, I find that it does not include screws that are long enough for my needs.
The use case it to attach a piece of light diffusion acrylic to the GlowBit. I have some 10mm long 2M screws, but not enough, and not sure where I got them from at this point. I’m wondering now what the length of the GlowBit Matrix Mounting Kit screws are, and if that’s where I got these from.

@Trent5487676 , can someone at Core check on the length of those screws/suggest a suitable product to buy for this purpose?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Timothy,

The screws in the GlowBit Matrix Mounting Kit are 6mm long and the standoffs are 12mm long.
I’m quite surprised you managed to find the 10mm long M2 screws you already have as nylon screws normally aren’t made all that long because they aren’t strong enough.

We don’t have a fully comprehensive range of fixings and fasteners. It might be best to call up a specialist store like Newcastle Hi-Tensile Bolt and see what the maximum length that’s manufactured is. I suspect longer bolts may be available in stainless steel or brass than what you can find in nylon.

Thanks for the help Trent.
After a bit of back and forth with Newcastle Hi-Tensile Bolt, I ordered the following which fit my purpose:
M2 X 10 304SS PAN PH M/T SCREW
M2 304SS HEX NUT
These were long enough to pass through a sheet of light diffusing acrylic and the glowbit and then attach to the standoffs from the M2 nylon screws I bought in the kit noted above.

Hi Timothy,

Excellent, glad you were able to find the fasteners required to get it assembled how you wanted in the end.
