During my work on my laptop I want to share my screen to small monitor so that my work colleague see my screen , Can I use the Waveshare 7inch LCD IPS 1024x600 (With Case).
Can he read the wiritting that is on my screen on the 7 inches screen ? what type of power supply the 7 inches monitor get? Can it display microsoft word that is on my laptop screen on it ?
Hi Adam,
Welcome to the forum!!
As long as your computer has another HDMI output then you’ll be good to replicate your screen (note if they are different resolutions it will lock it to the highest resolution - most likely your laptop’s screen, if its 4K there might be some blurring).
Depending on the size of the text he should be able to read it no worries, check out this image for reference.
Ideally, the screen should be powered from a dedicated 5V 2+ A micro USB power supply, and the touch interface can be connected using its own dedicated port
The screen is able to display whatever is coming through via HDMI, if Word is on the screen then it will pop up!
Liam
Thank you Liam .
Hello, just want to check that if my device can only output 720p or 1080p through HDMI, this monitor will accept that input and do scaling internally without tanking frame rate or doing anything else weird? The description seems to imply it should work fine. Thanks
Hi Thomas,
HDMI is a bit smart where you device will tend to adjust to what is best. Sometimes this doesn’t happen and then there could be some scaling that occurs.
Does it have touch functionality? Some reviewers said no, others said yes.
Hi @Laszlo250908,
This screen does come with touch functionality. Double checked myself.
Does the “Waveshare 7inch LCD IPS 1024x600 (with case)” support Windows 11, as a computer monitor?
Hi Audrey,
Welcome to the Forums! This screen does support Windows, Waveshare usually list compatibility in their Product Wikis
Hi Aaron,
I bought the screen a few months ago but did not have the time to work on my little project up until now. Yesterday I put the Rpi board and the HiFiBerry Digi2 Pro hat in the HiFiBerry Steel Case for DIGI. Then I followed the instructions on this https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/7inch_HDMI_LCD_(C)_(Firmware_Rev_2.1)_User_Manual link, wrote the Raspbian image on a TF card and appended the required lines to the config.txt file. However, when I power up my Rpi the screen sort of flashes, but then it is completely dark.
Can you help me to solve this problem?
Kind regards,
Laszlo
Hi @Laszlo250908,
Sorry to hear you are having trouble. Where did you find that guide? This display should follow the setup here. Reflash or update your config.txt to include those values and let me know how you go.
Hi Jack,
Thank you very much for your email.
I have updated config.txt:
Unfortunately, the screen is still blank.
I also tried to connect it to my laptop,
but it is still blank.
Kind regards,
Laszlo

Hi @Laszlo250908,
Thanks for the image.
Just want to confirm if you plugged the USB in to power the display when connected to the Pi and the Laptop?
Hi Aaron,
No. I tried to use the display in two different ways.
First I connected the display to the Pi with the HDMI cable + micro HDMI adapter, the USB cable, and switched on the PI. The Pi was on (red light) but the display remained blank. That’s how I intend to use this screen.
As a second attempt, just to see whether the screen works at all, I disconnected the display from the Pi and connected it with the HDMI cable to my laptop. Again, the display remained blank.
Kind regards,
Laszlo

Hi Aaron,
I have read your email again and realized that when I connected the display to my laptop, I forgot about the USB cable. Now I tried again with the USB cable and it works!
Previously, when I connected the display to my Pi, I used both the HDMI and the USB cables, but it did not work.
Kind regards,
Laszlo

FWIW, I recently constructed a music player consisting of this screen with Raspberry Pi and a different audio HAT.
I chose this screen because of the HDMI interface (a standard which will always be supported, as opposed to DSI drivers which may not be updated for later versions of OS). It did just plug and play.
It does need power, and I noticed that the documentation showed USB connected but no separate power cable. Sure enough I found that the USB cable does provide power to the screen, as well as interfacing the touch sensitivity.
Remembering back … I initially used a Micro-HDMI to HDMI adaptor with a short HDMI cable and I also found that my screen did not turn on. I tried testing using it with my desktop PC, and with a different cable.
Do you have a different micro-HDMI to HDMI cable you can try ? In my case I already had one of the Raspberry Pi official cables, and it made the difference. Of course that may not be your problem, but worth a try if you can.
Hey @Laszlo250908,
Glad to hear everything is working now! Let us know if you have any other issues, we’re always happy to help!
